Rolfing® Sessions

FAQ'S & Preparing for Your Session
Please come prepared for a 75-90 minute session. Due to the initial intake process, the first session is 90 minutes. Throughout the 10 series each session will incorporate a combination of hands on work and gentle therapeutic movement.

Rolfing™ has evolved to work at an intensity that is comfortable for both the client and the practitioner's professional judgement. Depth of pressure ranges from light touch to more intense depending on the client and their needs. All bodywork will still be comfortable and therapeutic.

Attire

Ideal attire for women is something similar to looser fitting athletic shorts and a non-restricting sports bra or camisole. For men athletic shorts or boxers. The idea is to come prepared with clothing that allows you to be comfortable, as well as, allows me to assess your structure and work with the body effectively. Please email if you have further questions or concerns on appropriate attire.

Session Pacing

The recommended scheduling for 10 sessions is every week or every other week. However, this is also dependent on a clients specific goals, availability, and the way that the individual body integrates the bodywork. Some also work better at a pace of once per month, or at the fastest - twice per week.  It is possible to take a longer break within the series if needed - however it is recommended to do so only after session 3 or 7.

Do I Have to do 10 Sessions?

The short answer is no, you don't HAVE to do 10 sessions - especially if you have already done a previous 10-session series. However, the reason Rolfing encourages 10 sessions is because we are a holistic therapy and we believe that the root cause of our pain is often coming from and/or impacting other areas of the body other than where we may experience symptoms. For example, if your ankle is limited in its range of motion it will impact how you walk. Over time this change in your movement may create pain in your knee or your hip. Other times there are internal concerns (chronic GI-distress or organ disfunction) or even emotional reasons that manifest into physical pain. The 10 sessions (give or take), allows us to address the whole body and factor in these connections to promote a true change and transformation in your body rather than just treating a symptom. Even if you have received a 10 session series in the past, it could be beneficial to do another later on, as life continues to change and so does your body.

HOW IS ROLFING™ DIFFERENT THAN MASSAGE & CHIROPRACTIC?

  • Rolfing™ is holistic, systematic, and transformational. Ideally you experience a long-standing change in your body or pain and take a break or stop coming after the initial series. We do not want nor expect you to keep coming back every week or month to continue to feel better.
  • You will be expected to participate in the session through movement or embodiment exercises, and may include post session homework.
  • Rolfing™ Structural Integration may take place on a table, bench, standing, sitting, or walking.
  • Rolfing™ does not use oils nor many of the traditional massage strokes.
  • You are clothed (partially or fully) during your session.
  • Rolfing™ does not use velocity based adjustments, rather, it works slowly and direct with the soft tissues and nervous system.
  • There is no twisting, cracking or popping of joints, rather we gently guide your structure into a new direction.
