Rolfing® & Yoga
Rolfing™ can compliment yoga in a number of ways. Bodywork can help with improving body awareness, easing tension, improving circulation, and flexibility. Rolfing also helps to relieve adhesions in the connective tissues, and re-map the nervous system to reduce pain and restore mobility. The combination of Rolfing and Yoga may improve your posture and alignment, re-educate compensation patterns, and improve balance, flexibility, and strength.
I love to bring my experience and background as a Rolfer, Endurance Athlete, Meditator, and Anthropologist into my yoga classes, exploring unique movements that both challenge and support the body & mind though inspired cross training and movement therapy. My strength lies in teaching fluid hatha/vinyasa classes that incorporates kriyas, guided body awareness, primal movements, modern-day mindfulness, and pose modifications to meet the needs of a diverse student body. My classes can be educational, physical, and restoring, while offering a sense of grounded interpersonal connection and inquiry without being “ultra spiritual”.
Yoga can be anything from a physically balancing practice that improves flexibility and strength, to a spiritual awakening. Regardless of the reasoning or style of yoga practiced, it fosters embodiment. This term is often used to describe the experience of being present, aware of a physical state, thoughts, and both external and internal circumstances. Yoga gets people to move in unique ways and test the limits of our bodies or perceptions so we can be less rigid and reactionary, becoming more understanding and present.
Yoga is not a series of fancy poses and headstands, it is not a fast-paced sweat fest in a 112 degree room, nor is it sitting for hours on end chanting and meditating. Yoga is simply being mindful, while moving or resting, in a way that promotes the highest sense of balance and presence for YOU exactly as YOU need it in this present moment. Wherever you are in life, however you choose to approach movement, activity, life, spirituality, religion or otherwise; yoga is good for you.
